Greater New Orleans Iris Society sales offer the most extensive selection of cultivars available in the area. A few species plants are also sold.
The Fall Rhizome Sale held at Longue Vue is the largest and is held on a Saturday morning in October. In addition to September, October is the prime month to plant bare root Louisiana irises.
In most years, GNOIS holds a potted iris sale in the spring, most recently at the Lighthouse on the Lakefront in March. Fewer plants are offered, but potted plants are easy to add to the garden before the summer heat sets in.
A few irises are typically given away or raffled at GNOIS meetings and activities. GNOIS is happy to help volunteers at the Island Iris Nursery in City Park add to their iris gardens. We grow over 500 varieties in the nursery.
Local nurseries often sell a few varieties of Louisiana irises, and big box stores may have a limited supply in the spring. By far, the most expansive selection is available from online specialty nurseries. These nurseries typically have online catalogs and take orders for fall delivery.
