NOTICE: Our FIELD TRIP scheduled for March 29 must be postponed. The bloom season is late and few flowers will be in bloom. The weather forecast is also bad. Watch here for updates. We apologize for any inconvenience
Saturday, March 29
A tour of iris spots on the Northshore. We are going to Joyce Wildlife Management Area (picture above), Fontainebleau State Park, and the garden of GNOIS member Buddy Manuel in Mandeville.
If you plan to come, please email Sue Anthony, anthony_sue@att.net by Noon, Thursday, April 27.
Those on the Southshore will meet at the East Bank Regional Library in the parking lot near the rooms where we have our regular meetings. That’s the end of the building nearest Causeway. We can arrange carpooling from there.
If you are on the Northshore, you can join the tour at Joyce Wildlife Management area, but if you need to carpool, let Sue know.
The itinerary is as follows:
Miles | Leave | Arrive | Stay | |
Library to Joyce | 40.2 (38 min) | 8:00 AM | 9:00 AM | 45 min |
Joyce to Buddy Manuel’s | 37.2 (35 min) | 9:45 AM | 10:30 AM | 45 min |
Buddy’s to Fontainebleau State Park | 7.5 (15 min) | 11:15 AM | 11:30 AM | 45 min |
Fontainebleu to restaurant | 10 min est. | 12:15 AM | 12:30 PM | 1 hour |
Restaurant to library | 1:30 PM | 2:30 PM |
The restaurant is Nan’s, the same as last year. Casual, po boys, and so forth. If you want to skip lunch, feel free, because the tour will be over after Fontainebleau. Last year, lunch was fun, however.
Hope to see you on Saturday.
TIP: If you are traveling toward Joyce on I-55, get off at Manchac and switch over to Old Highway 51. Hwy 51 parallels I-55 and merges into it just under 6 miles from Manchac, and Joyce is on the right just before that merger. Watch carefully, because if you miss the turn into Joyce, you will have to get on I-55, go to Ponchatoula and come back
